🧭 Purpose
This guide explains how to create new catalog filters based on web product fields. These filters help users refine product listings in the storefront, making it easier for customers to find relevant items.
1. 🔧 Prerequisites
Before creating filters, ensure that:
✅ You have access to the setup.
✅ The web product field you want to filter on exists and is populated in the product data.
✅ You have permission to modify filter settings (Admin role).
2. 🧱 Understanding Filterable Product Fields
You can create filters based on:
Text fields (e.g., Title, Product Code, Serial Number)
Picklist fields (e.g., Material, Size, Weight)
💡 Tip: If a field isn’t available, first add it to the web product object and ensure it is marked as filterable (see Section 5).
3. 🛠️ Steps to Create a New Filter
To configure a new filter start from the OrderCentral app.
Step 1: Navigate to the Catalog Filter Configuration
Go to:
OrderCentral Settings > Product Filters
Step 2: Select a filter group
In the dropdown select the group of filters you want to add the filter to
Step 3: Add the field to the filter group
Search for the field you want to filter on in the left column
Select the field
Click on the arrow pointing to the right to move it to the selected fields
Step 4: Save and Preview
Save your configuration.
Preview in the storefront to ensure it behaves as expected.
4. 🧪 Testing Your Filter
After setup:
Go to the storefront
Apply the new filter
Check the results
Ensure only the expected products appear
Verify with different user roles if visibility settings are in place
5. ➕ Adding a New Product Property (if needed)
If the filter is based on a property that does not yet exist:
Navigate to:
Setup > Object Manager -> Web Product -> Fields
Click “New”
Define:
Property Name
Data Type (text, picklist)
Save and update affected products
⚠️ Note: Picklist filters will only work if the property has values in the catalog.
7. 🧼 Best Practices
Use clear, customer-friendly filter names
Avoid clutter – only show relevant filters per category
Don’t overuse filters – aim for quality over quantity
Use logical groupings if filters become too long
8. 🆘 Troubleshooting
Problem | Solution |
---|---|
Filter not appearing | Check if property is marked as filterable and populated |
No results when applying filter | Verify that products contain valid values |
Filter values not readable | Use user-friendly labels for picklist values |
